DIY Christmas Chalkboard Sign

I love decorating my house for Christmas, and I love making new Christmas decorations each year! Right now I'm completely obsessed with making chalkboards and using chalk paint on everything because it requires zero prep, is easy to use, dries quickly, and looks awesome. Just recently I made this new chalkboard sign using Mod Podge® Clear Chalkboard Topcoat and FolkArt Home Decor Chalk paint, and here is how I did it!

Supplies
Wood board
Black craft paint
Mod Podge® Clear Chalkboard Topcoat
Chalk
FolkArt Home Decor Chalk paint
Stencil for your design (I made mine on my cutting machine)
Sponge brush

Step 1: Paint your board with the black craft paint.

Step 2: After the craft paint has dried, apply the Mod Podge® Clear Chalkboard Topcoat. You could also just use black chalk paint and skip this step, but since I didn't have any on hand, I used the craft paint and Mod Podge® Clear Chalkboard Topcoat, which is awesome because you can make any color of paint a chalkboard!

Step 3: Once the Mod Podge® Clear Chalkboard Topcoat has dried (follow the directions on the label), prime the chalkboard by rubbing chalk on it and wiping it all around with a paper towel or dry rag.

Step 4: At this point, you could draw or stencil on your new chalkboard with actual chalk and it would be SO cute. I chose to stencil with paint so that the design was permanent. Remove the stencil after applying.

Step 5: Let paint dry completely. At this point you could also seal the design with a protective clear spray.

Didn't it turn out so pretty and festive? I love how it looks on my table. And for more project ideas and instructions, visit the Plaid website and follow them on social media (links below). Happy crafting!
