We are big readers here at the PLG so we thought we would share some of our favorite past, present, and future reads for your spring break, or for pretending to be on spring break (like US). However, if you choose to read this post you should know you are entering into a contract that hereby binds the reader (you) as a blog participant who after reading the aforementioned list must then visit the comments and disclose what you (the reader) are reading. If there is a breach in the contract, and the reader does not participate in said book club discussion, the reader must hereby purchase the blogger(s) all the Cadbury Mini Eggs in order to rectify said breach. I don't make the rules (yes I do), I just write the posts, people.
Now, let's talk books. (Click "read more"!)
1. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lax // This is a favorite of mine from a few years ago. It's nonfiction and the story is beyond fascinating. It will sorta blow your mind.
3.
The Night Circus // This is another favorite from a couple of years ago. The storytelling is maaaagical. I love to recommend it because it's so easy to love.
4.
Tell the Wolves I'm Home // This one is a heartbreaker and I loved every bit of it. Gorgeous language, characterization that will make you feel like these people are yours, and a dang beautiful story.
5.
Paper Towns // I am such a fair-weather reader and always zip through a book so I can be done before its movie comes out. This isn't my favorite of John Green's but he is so good at what he does and the movie is supposed to be huge so I say it's worth a read.
6.
David and Goliath // Malcolm Gladwell, you crazy-haired genius, I love the way you make me think. This was a brain-opener. He is so cool.
7.
I'll Give You the Sun // Listen. I loved this book with all the fibers but feel as though I must strongly caution that it won't be for everyone. The language is mature and the protagonist is gay, and even though it is YA I'd classify the content as relatively mature. So, proceed with caution. Nevertheless, if you do proceed you will find the most gorgeous braided story that will leave your breath knocked from your body.
8.
The Family Romanov // This is nonfiction that reads much more smoothly than most nonfiction. I have a mini-obsession with this family and this book is straight-up fascinating.
9.
We Were Liars // Ok. This one is on the top of everrrrry best book of 2014 list and a couple of weeks ago the peer pressure got to me. I devoured that sucker. I wouldn't say it was my favorite of 2014, but the story sucks you in like mad and there's a twist at the end that will knock your socks off.
10.
The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry // I am in the middle of this one at this moment and loving it so far. This is a story written for book lovers, and if you have read this whole post then that probably means you are one and you'll like it. I'll report back once it's done.
11.
The Girl on the Train // Everyone is losing their minds over this one. Have you read it? I need to know the details on this one. Give it to me. Should I be reading?
12.
Go Set a Watchman // Yes, yes, there is a lot of controversy surrounding the release of this one but don't care. I can't WAIT to get my hands on a copy. The lady is a straight-up literary genius! Will you be reading?
Your turn! What are your old/new favorites? What are you reading now? What can't we miss? To the comments with you!
